Foxton Locks Pub To Re-Open At The End Of May

22th February 2005

British Waterways’ Waterside Pub Partnership with Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises Management Ltd has announced that the pub at Foxton Locks will open at the end of May 2005.   The contract to remodel and refurbish the building has been awarded and a pub lessee with the experience to successfully manage the attraction at the historic site has been secured.

Contractors, Togel Contractors Ltd, will start on site before the end of February and the twelve week project will be completed by the end of May, in time for the bank holiday and the summer season when thousands of visitors are attracted to the Leicestershire visitor attraction.

Martyn Gray commercial director at Scottish & Newcastle Pub Enterprises comments: “I am delighted that our partnership with British Waterways will have the pub open in time for the summer.   We’ve also secured a pub lessee who shares the Partnership’s vision of a pub offering good food, good service and a traditional pub atmosphere for both the residents of Foxton and the visitors to the area.”

James Clifton, British Waterways’ project manager, says: “Foxton Locks is one of the most popular visitor destinations in the East Midlands, attracting around 200,000 people each year.   The new pub has always been an important part of our plans to improve facilities and I am really looking forward to the pub opening in just over three months time.”

In December 2004 Harborough District Council’s planning committee voted unanimously to grant planning permission for the refurbishment and extension of the pub at Foxton Locks.   Working with the Foxton Locks Partnership, British Waterways, which manages the site, is undertaking a series of projects to make improvements for visitors.

The pub at Foxton will be the first of a number of sites throughout Britain to be developed by British Waterways’ and S&NPE’s Waterside Pub Partnership.   For more information about visiting Foxton Locks and other waterside locations across the country visit www.waterscape.comor contact British Waterways Customer Service Centre on 01923 201120.
